We are a group of members of the League of Women Voters from around the US but we are not any type of formal LWV entity, currently about 300 members from individual Leagues in 46 states. We function as an independent group and do not use the League name in any of our activities. We do act in alignment with LWV policies and with the LWVUS position on Health Care.
At the end of this e-mail you will find our Vision, Mission and Goals. We have also attached a copy of our Structure so you can see how we are organized.
In general we are composed of:
l A Steering Committee that “meets” once per month via phone. This group sets policy, determines priorities, and acts as the organizing body for all the actions through HCR4US.
l Supporters who want to help the cause but don’t want to be as involved as those on the Steering Committee. Supporters get periodic e-mail related to our activities and health care. These e-mails give information, request assistance for special projects, propose ways to further advance our cause, and in general keep supporters up to date with what HCR4US is doing.
Thank you for your participation. We look forward to working with you.

VISION, MISSION & GOALS
of the
HEALTH CARE REFORM FOR UNITED STATES (HCR4US)
STEERING COMMITTEE
VISION
The Steering Committee of Health Care Reform for United States is a group of League members committed to achieving a universal health care system for our nation. Through education and advocacy, our members will inspire and motivate the people in their communities to tell their elected representatives to enact legislation that provides access to quality, affordable health care for all.
MISSION:
We embrace the 1993 LWVUS Health Care Position, which calls for “policies that promote access to a basic level of quality care at an affordable cost for all United States of America residents and strong cost control mechanisms to ensure the efficient and economical delivery of care” as well as the preference for “a national health insurance plan financed through general taxes, commonly known as the ‘single payer’ approach” as described in the 2004-2006 Impact on Issues.
GOALS:
Our organizational goals are:
1.) To make Health Care Reform an issue in elections and create voter demand for universal health care
2.) To create an active network of League members dedicated to promoting Health Care Reform by sharing information, expertise and useful contacts
3.) To prepare Leagues at the local, state and national level to BE READY TO ACT when Health Care issues become politically timely
4.) To promote a productive, mutually beneficial relationship between this network and LWVUS
5.) To develop up-to-date educational materials for the use of Leagues at the local, state and national level
6.) To coordinate and accomplish these tasks through a nationwide network of League members supporting Health Care Reform headed by an ongoing Steering Committee

IMPORTANT NOTE
Although League of Women Voter membership is a requirement to belong to the National Health Care Reform Network, the Network is not yet an official LWV entity. Thus the Network cannot use the name `League of Women Voters’ to identify itself to the public, nor will the Network in any way imply endorsement of Network activities by the LWV organization.
If you are requesting to be on the Steering Committee you need to complete the attached form and mail it to: Irene Fortune, 4830 Avon Ave. Loveland, CO 80538.
